"Pawn Shop: Sequined!" at Sierra Arts Foundation Riverside Gallery

“Pawn Shop: Sequined!” is a solo exhibition by mixed-media artist Beck Baumann. Up and down Virginia Street in downtown Reno, it’s still possible to see a pawn shop or two. Beck will recreate the treasures people sell to pawn shops, all in her signature sequin style. It’s a kind of bittersweet nostalgia, seeing the jewelry, watches, musical instruments, designer bags, guns, and electronics that people surrender when they need the cash. Because of their inherent value, these items will never be thrown away, but find new value with new owners. It’s interesting to ponder, will these sequined avatars share the same fate?
